Big Boy updates 11-3-06

We've had a busy week with appointments and stuff.... thought we'd better let you all know that Burke weighed in at 10# 60z on Monday...wow...what a big boy he's getting to be! It's been a busy and stressful week...despite his great weight gain, feeding Burke has become a bit more complex. He swallows an extreme amount of air during his feeds which causes him tons of pain and he's unable to finish his bottle without a big fuss (and I mean BIG fuss!). It's really frusterating for all of us and we've had to figure out ways to decrease the air intake....we've had to rig up a special tube and syringe deal that allows air to escape through without draining out all the milk he's just eaten. It's hard for me to be at home by myself feeding him with all of these issues so I'm trying to be calm and hang in there...please pray for us as we continue to encounter difficulties along the way...

We are happy about the weight gain. Sorry about the feeding problems. You have shown remarkable patience and ingenuity so far - I'm sure you will work this one out too. Our thoughts and prayers are with you constantly.

A FROG Story For Burke

A group of frogs were traveling through the woods and two of them fell into a deep pit. All the other frogs gathered around the pit. When they saw how deep the pit was, they told the two frogs that they were as good as dead. The two frogs ignored the comments and tried to jump up out of the pit with all of their might. The other frogs kept telling them to stop, that they were as good as dead. Finally, one of the frogs took heed to what the other frogs were saying and gave up. He fell down and died.

The other frog continued to jump as hard as he could. Once again, the crowd of frogs yelled at him to stop the pain and just die. He jumped even harder and finally made it out.
When he got out, the other frogs said, "Did you not hear us?" The frog explained to them that he was deaf. He thought they were encouraging him the entire time.

November 4th

Ha ha!!! I finally got to hold our baby Burke! He's so cute!!! And that dimple in his chin and cheeks when he smiles SO BIG! Oh yeah.... Nate and Chris are wiped so if anyone wants to come and hold Burke so Dad and Mom can puddle...that would be good....and Burke's feeding is interesting...we need to put our heads together on this one...a relief valve is needed somewhere in the line...he is indeed uncomfortable to have all that air in his tummy while filling up with milk...we don't want feedings associated with discomfort....oh yeah...a midnight nanny would be divine too.

Here's to a good nights sleep for you Nate and Chris and Burke!

Hugs and prayers,
Peg and Rochelle and family

Whoever it was that guessed 10# 5 oz. is a genius. Does Burke like shots? You have so much to deal with; we'll keep praying! Looking forward to the videos.

PS: Are Burke and Avery having a rooting reflex contest in the bottom picture of your last post?

Hi Chris and Nate,
So wonderful to see the pictures and read Burkes blog and be brought up to speed on his growth and development. He looks healthy and wonderful and gaining weight at a rapid rate!! You have a head start on the patience it takes to raise kids!! Have been busy working 2 jobs so haven't had much time, but hope to be able to see all of you soon.
With love and prayers,
Great Aunt Katie
